The birth of the Indian Journal of Ophthalmology Case Reports (IJOCR) a year ago represented an exciting development in the field of Indian ophthalmology.[1] The purpose was to keep alive the importance of case reports in teaching and learning the art and science of ophthalmology by providing a clear space for interesting and educative ophthalmic narratives.[1] We had aimed to offer a unique repository for the pearls of wisdom arising out of astute clinical observations, new insights provided by clinical investigations and imaging, novel treatment methods and surgical procedures, an unusual association of diseases and uncommon complications or innovative management of the same, in the form of case reports, photo essays, and ophthalmic images.[1] Our aim was also to democratize academics by providing a window of opportunity for everyone to publish. Going forward, we will initiate the inclusion of new categories of manuscripts – diagnostic and surgical pearls, and clinical-radiological, pathological, and microbiological correlations to broaden the scope and the spectrum of the Journal.

IJOCR has made good progress in its first year. A total of 192 case reports, 110 photo essays, and 96 ophthalmic images have been published in the four quarterly issues of the first volume – 82 in issue 1, 102 in issue 2, 103 in issue 3, and 123 in issue 4, 409 in all including editorials and commentaries. The authorship spectrum was diverse, ranging from residents and fellows in training, ophthalmologists in an individual, group, or institutional practice, medical colleges, and academic institutions hailing from 25 countries representing all the continents of the world [Figure 1].{Figure 1}

The number of manuscripts submitted for consideration for publications in IJOCR has doubled over the last year, resulting in an increased number of publications. We are making efforts to streamline the manuscript processing pipeline to publish manuscripts within three months after acceptance. We will also begin the process of indexation this year as per the established timelines.

IJOCR, as you may know, is an open-access hybrid journal with an online edition, the PDF and flipbook versions of which are circulated to all the AIOS members and the hard copy of the journal is supplied to the corresponding authors, subscribers, and libraries. Case reports, photo essays, and ophthalmic images provide interesting and succinct learning points and are liked by the readers. The Journal has got an excellent response from the readers with 188437 unique online accesses over the year, with an average of 460 hits per article. This is very encouraging for a new journal. Some of the published case reports have already received citations as well. We look forward to your continued active participation - your writing for IJOCR and reading and commenting on its publications.
