A 36-year-old emmetropic female with uncorrected visual acuity of 20/20 OU was detected with retinochoroidal coloboma (RCC) [Figure 1], with other ocular findings being normal. Closure of embryonic fissure begins on day 33 of gestation.[1] We present a case of unilateral choroidal coloboma [Figure 2] where a fusion of fetal cleft may have occurred aberrantly, resulting in an aborted RCC, not involving optic nerve but present adjacent to it. Occurrence of an aborted superior-nasal RCC [Figure 1] has not been reported in the literature before. Ophthalmologists should have a vigilant watch, for the inception of subretinal fluid and retinal detachment, as colobomas present adjacent to the optic nerve head have an increased risk for it.[2],[3] | Figure 1: (a) Fundus photograph OS showing aborted chorioretinal coloboma adjacent to the superonasal aspect of the optic nerve (red arrows).
