Real time optical coherence tomography for young uncooperative subjects

Optical coherence tomography (OCT)[1] was planned for a 28-month female with bilateral macular dystrophy [Figure 1]a and [Figure 1]b to look into the retinal architecture. But the child was very uncooperative with significant nystagmus that prevented fixation for a scan. To overcome this, a video was recorded from the live imaging screen and snapshots were taken [Figure 1]c and [Figure 1]d. Bilateral retinal thinning with staphylomatous indentation was seen at the site of the lesion. We would like to propose that real-time OCT recording should be incorporated into the upcoming OCT machines which can be helpful for such cases (giving us a rough idea of the retinal architecture if not the detailed cross-section image).
